Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNO): The three-day Khelo India Water Sports Festival at Dal Lake featured not only thrilling races but also a surge of excitement around the festival’s mascot, inspired by the Himalayan Kingfisher.
Visitors and athletes flocked to the mascot, taking selfies and capturing memories.
“It is amazing! I have never seen such a lively mascot at a sports event. Everyone wants to click photos with it,” said Ayesha Khan, a visitor from Srinagar, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Similarly, the athletes also enjoyed its cheerful presence. “After a long race, seeing the mascot lift our spirits was refreshing. It is a nice way to connect sports with culture and nature,” said a medalist in the kayaking event.
Moreover, the festival, organised jointly by the Sports Authority of India and the J&K Sports Council, has turned Dal Lake into a vibrant sporting hub, with over 800 athletes from 28 states and union territories participating in events such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, dragon boat races, and Shikara races.
“The mascot reflects adventure, energy, and our deep connection with nature. It is wonderful to see it becoming a favourite among visitors and athletes alike,” said an official—(KNO)
